Driver escapes injury in tractor-trailer crash

PARKMAN – A Prentiss man escaped injury Tuesday when he lost control of his tractor-trailer on a sharp curve on Route 150 and the truck rolled over into a ditch.

Matthew Purrington, 28, was traveling toward Guilford at about 4:30 a.m. in a tractor-trailer carrying a load of sawdust when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to Trooper Forrest Simpson of the Maine State Police. The 2004 Kenworth truck was owned by S&S Transportation of Lincoln.

Simpson said two axles separated from the trailer during the accident and the rig was damaged extensively. A couple of minor defects on the truck resulted in warnings, he said.

Traffic was rerouted from Parkman to Sangerville from the time of the accident until about 12:40 p.m., Simpson said.

Since the accident occurred near a stream and a small amount of fuel leaked from the truck, the Department of Environmental Protection was notified.

Guilford firefighters and the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department assisted state police.
