A&E on the manhunt with new reality show

When I saw that A&E is about to release a new show, “Manhunters,” I had to stop and think for a moment. The name could have a few different meanings, and I was pretty sure the first one that popped into my head wouldn’t be on A&E, but rather would have been on Bravo with gold-digging women in search of their next male victim.

As usual, I was wrong. Instead of women on the prowl, it’s the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force that’s in search of its next renegade.

The task force’s New York-New Jersey division is made up of various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies who will be showing the public how they work to catch criminals who are on the lam.

A little research shows that the first episode about the hunt for the Jamaican Shower Posse (no, they don’t kill people in the shower or hold their meetings in the bathroom) is an attempt to catch members of the most notorious Jamaican crime organization. There are even books out about these guys and it doesn’t sound like you’d ever want to get on their bad side.

“Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force,” which airs Dec. 9, definitely is for the guys. Although the idea isn’t new – we’ve all seen “Cops” and “America’s Most Wanted” – this one looks like there’s going to be a little more danger and drama involved.

Speaking of drama, things are heating up on “Survivor: Gabon” and it’s going to be a spectacle to the end.

Unfortunately, “Reality Bites” has to be written before Thursday night’s “Survivor” in order to meet deadlines, but I’m betting we see Portland Bob in the running for a while longer. I called it from the beginning and I’m going to say it again: Bob will be around until the final days of Gabon.

And last, there’s some breaking “American Idol” news. Yes, that’s right. The world needs to know that former “Idol” finalist Kellie Pickler is becoming a vegetarian. Apparently it’s the country thing to do.

My only question: Who cares?

Isn’t our economy in the dumps? Isn’t there some big election coming up? Aren’t people having to choose between food and medicine?

And what does People magazine report? Pickler is giving up meat. She has been on the veggie wagon for five months, but we’ll have to wait and see if she can keep up with fellow carrot cruncher Carrie Underwood.
