ORONO – Julie Norman scored two goals to lead the No. 1 Orono Red Riots to a 5-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over the No. 8 Houlton Shiretowners in an Eastern Maine Class C quarterfinal Thursday.
Meghan Curtis, Ruth Mares and Jess Riley also scored for 9-2-4 Orono. Chloe Paul, Rachel Balaban and Riley Mahan recorded assists. Elizabeth Fox turned away five of eight shots.
Madison Lezotte made 11 saves off 20 shots for the 9-6-1 Shiretowners.
Thursday’s quarterfinal winners advance to Saturday’s semifinal round.
Class A
Brunswick 3, Bangor 0
At Brunswick, Rebekka Miller scored off an Amy Pelletier assist with 27 minutes remaining in the first half to lead No. 2 Brunswick to victory over seventh-seeded Bangor.
Christina Damon added a goal in the second half with an assist from Allison Walton for 14-0-1 Brunswick. Hilary Champagne scored with 14:51 left in regulation off a Walton assist. Maisie DeGoosh stopped both shots.
Kortnie Hudgens turned away 15 of 23 shots for 10-5-1 Bangor.

Class C
Washington Acad. 3, Calais 1
At East Machias, junior Sun Min Kim scored the winner on a breakaway with 8:48 left in the first half to break the 1-1 tie and lead No. 2 Washington Academy by No. 7 Calais.
The Raiders lost their first game of the season but have won 14 in a row, including three over Calais. Washington Academy early beat the Blue Devils 2-0 in East Machias and 4-2 in Calais.
Jeff Johnston scored with 32:38 remaining in the first half off a Ben Pagels assist to put 11-4-1 Calais on top 1-0.
Milos Gautier tied it on a shot 20 yards out with 28:33 left in the first for 14-1 Washington Academy. Kim scored the winner and Steven Knowles scored on a direct kick from about 30 yards out early in the second half.
Bryce Colbeth stopped 12 of 20 shots for the Raiders and Jordan Leeman turned away 19 of 30 shots for the Blue Devils.
