Togus Stand-Down for homeless veterans

AUGUSTA – The Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center will hold the 11th annual Maine Homeless Veterans Stand-Down beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.

The daylong event will be conducted with a range of volunteers from private, state and federal organizations as well as veterans’ service organizations and individuals. Homeless veterans will be provided transportation that day from 10 pickup points throughout the state, from Caribou to York.

Homeless veterans can select from a diverse offering of available services and support, including medical and dental screening, employment opportunities, housing services, needs assessment, counseling, legal advice and cold-weather clothing.

A full turkey dinner also will be provided for the homeless veterans and volunteers. For information, call 623-5714.
