PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle has scheduled the following events for November:
. The Student Education Association of Maine will hold a fall workshop titled “From Standards to Learning” for area educators 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7. Participants will engage in activities that apply to sections of the newly revised Maine Learning Results. The event will take place in Pullen Hall Room 213 and is free to NEA, MEA and SEAM members, $75 for nonmembers. To register, e-mail wendy.ross@umpi.edu.
. The Physical Education Majors Club will hold its eighth semiannual Fit and Fun Day at Gentile Hall 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. The event, geared toward students in grades one through five, teaches young children about health and fitness in a fun environment. For more information, contact Dr. Chris Standefer at 768-8457.
. UMPI will hold a weeklong 1968 retrospective Monday through Saturday, Nov. 10-15, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of a transformational year in politics, education, science and culture. The retrospective will include round-table discussions, presentations, movie screenings, musical performances, an art exhibit and a conversation with journalist and Vietnam War correspondent Richard Dudman. . Outdoor Adventure Program International will hold a base-camp-style hike through the Bigelows, including sleeping in canvas-wall tents Friday through Sunday, Nov. 14-16. No experience is required.
Participants will depart from Gentile Hall at noon Friday. The cost is $60 for students, $85 for nonstudents, and includes transportation, food and group gear. For more information call 768-9401.
. OAPI will hold a white-water kayak roll clinic 1:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, for participants of all abilities in the Gentile Hall pool. No experience is required. OAPI will provide kayaks, spray skirts, paddles, lifejackets and instruction. This event is free for Gentile Hall members and UMPI students. The cost is $7 for nonmembers. . OAPI will return to Quebec for a daylong caving adventure Saturday, Nov. 22. No experience is required.
Participants will depart from Gentile Hall at 7 a.m. Cost is $25 for students, $40 for nonstudents. Cost includes transportation, snacks and helmets. For more information call 768-9401.
