Whistle-blower wins discrimination case

AUBURN – A contractor who was fired after blowing the whistle when unlicensed electricians were used at Saddleback Mountain, a western Maine ski area, has won $24,500 in back pay and damages in Androscoggin County Superior Court.

Justice Joyce Wheeler signed a judgment last week that says Integrity Electrical Installation and Service Inc. of Farmington discriminated against Robert Duggan Jr., formerly of Minot, and ordered back pay of $2,000 and $22,500 in damages. The judge also ruled against Saddleback.

The ski area is considering an appeal.

As a master electrician for Integrity, Duggan expressed concern over work at Saddleback by unlicensed workers, which he said violated state codes.

In June, a jury awarded Duggan, 37, $84,000 in back pay and damages on separate counts in Duggan’s case.
