FORT KENT – Third-seeded Madawaska converted three penalty kicks to No. 2 Fort Kent’s one to push the Owls to the Eastern Maine Class C championship game with a 2-1 schoolgirl soccer triumph Friday afternoon.

The Owls will either host fifth-ranked George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill or play at top-ranked Orono.

Those teams play today at 2:30 p.m. in Orono.

Madawaska’s Val Parker, Olivia Pelletier and Susan Lavertu scored on penalty kicks after a 1-1 double-overtime tie. Michela Desjardins converted the Warriors’ lone penalty kick.

Lavertu scored an unassisted goal 10 minutes into the game to put 11-4-1 Madawaska on top 1-0.

Jamie Pelletier tied it with three minutes left in regulation for 9-6-1 Fort Kent.

Madawaska’s Stephanie Nadeau saved 18 of 29 while Carissa Pelletier turned away five of seven shots for Fort Kent.

Class D

Machias 1, Bangor Christian 0

At Machias, Raymond Smith’s goal 10:29 into the game lifted the No. 2 Machias Bulldogs by the No. 3 Bangor Christian Patriots.

Smith converted a through ball from Jacob Stevens and blasted a shot from about 20 yards out to the far post. Michael Jenkins finished with eight saves on 18 shots for the 12-4 winners.

For the 11-4-1 Patriots, Tyler Alexander made 10 saves on 15 shots.
