Dinner guest wears out welcome, gets arrested

BROOKS – A Jackson woman was arrested Sunday night after refusing to leave a home where she had been invited for supper.

Tanya A. Williams, 44, was charged with assault on a corrections officer, obstructing the report of a crime and refusing to submit to arrest after the 9:45 p.m. incident on Hall Hill Road.

According to the police report, Williams and a male companion had been invited to dine with the homeowner, and sometime after the meal was completed the homeowner asked her to leave. When Williams refused, the homeowner reached for the phone to call the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department and Williams took it from him. He eventually was able to call for assistance.

When Deputy Sheriff Gerry Lincoln and Sgt. James Porter arrived at the property, Williams was outside yelling at the homeowner, according to the report. When the deputies attempted to intervene, Williams allegedly pushed one aside and tried to re-enter the home.

The deputies placed her under arrest and took her to Waldo County Jail. Once at the jail, William allegedly kicked a corrections officer.

Williams was held overnight and released on $500 cash bail Monday.
