Phils reverse fortunes

In the late 1930s and 1940s, a sportswriter named Jack Singer wrote a sports column which was printed in the Bangor Daily News.

During that time the Philadelphia Phillies always ended up around seventh place in their league. One day Singer wrote this little rhyme in his column:

“I see no rhyme nor reason

“Why the Phils should start the season”

Since that time the fortunes of the Phillies have greatly improved.
