In Orono, police officers are still catching up on paperwork from a Halloween detail that Sgt. Scott Scripture said generated more than 20 citations.

The special detail, which started about 8 p.m. Halloween night and ran until about 4 a.m. Saturday, involved scheduling six more officers than usual for a Friday night shift, he said. Overall, Orono police responded to more than 30 incidents, Scripture said.

Though final tallies weren’t available Monday, Scripture said most of the citations were for underage drinking. Other charges included one of drunken driving, two of possessing drug paraphernalia and one of violating release conditions, he said. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A Bangor man has been ordered to appear in Penobscot County Superior Court after being charged Friday with robbery at an Orono grocery store.

According to police reports, clerks at Bell’s Orono IGA accused Michael D. Fagan of stealing a king-size Hershey chocolate bar while shopping there.

Fagan denied taking the candy, said Sgt. Scott Scripture of the Orono Police Department. When store clerks tried to detain Fagan until police arrived, he allegedly pushed them into some display racks and left the store, elevating what Scripture said would have been a theft charge to one of robbery.

The clerks followed Fagan to the parking lot, where police arrested him and took him to Penobscot County Jail. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
