DEXTER – In the two years it has been in existence, the Christian Community Church has taken its name seriously.
The members minister to the community through a prayer shawl ministry in which shawls are made for those experiencing tough times.
In addition, members raise money for the local food cupboard and the Tyler Wintle Scholarship, provide “survival” kits for residents serving in the military overseas, make handcrafted items for the hospital chaplaincy and support missionary families in Chad and Paraguay. Members also helped in the recent energy weatherization effort in Dexter.
Proceeds from the Christmas craft fair, to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the American Legion Hall, will allow the church to continue with its community efforts.
The nondenominational church was formed on Nov. 5, 2006, by about a dozen concerned Christians, according to Lois Field. The first service was held at the Courser Memorial School in Ripley, followed by several services at the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Hall, both in Dexter.
Vince Sawyer of Toot’s Delicatessen has allowed the church the use of part of his driveway for overflow parking.
