NEWFIELD – Wardens are investigating a hunting accident in which a 16-year-old boy shot himself in the toe while tracking the first deer he had ever shot.

Wardens say William Tarbox of Newfield was taken to Maine Medical Center after shooting the middle toe of his right foot at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Tarbox had shot a spike-horn buck and was following its trail at the time of the accident.
