Zonta Club to host 30th Holiday MarketPlace

Many quality vendors will participate in the 30th annual Holiday MarketPlace hosted by Zonta Club of Bangor, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at Brewer Auditorium reports Alex Turallo.

Admission is just $1 each day, and as usual, shoppers will be able to purchase meals along with gifts, and participate in 50-50 and Thanksgiving Basket raffles.

New this year, Turallo wrote, will be caroling by Girl Scouts of all ages, and between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, Santa Claus will participate in a photo session.

Holly Twining of Fields Pond Audubon Center wants people who “love birds, are fascinated with them or simply curious,” to meet ornithologist and Bangor native, Jeffrey Wells, as he discusses his new book, “Birder’s Conservation Handbook,” at 7 tonight at the Audubon Center, 216 Fields Pond Road, Holden.

Wells also will talk about “what people can do to make things better for birds” in this program of “Bird Species at Risk,” Twinning explained.

Admission is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

Ellen Hathaway reports Friendship Cottage and Eastern Area Agency on Aging are hosting a Caregiver Retreat beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Friendship Cottage, 118 Ellsworth Road, Blue Hill.

Presentations include Safely Transporting Care Receivers with Josephine Cooper, director of Faith in Action Community Connection; Guided Imagery with Janet Lewis of EAAA; seated massages with Healing Hands, and after the monthly Caregivers Support Group meeting, a yoga presentation with Sally Clinton.

Musicians Helping Friends is hosting a Benefit Supper to raise money for the Corinna Fuel Fund for Needy Families.

The event is 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the Corinna American Legion Hall, 47 Maple St.

The cost of the meal of baked beans, chop suey, rolls, and dessert is your donation.

After the meal, attendees will enjoy a concert of local talent featuring Mainely Country and The Higgins Family.

As part of the Zonta Holiday MarketPlace, Tricia Largay invites you to “bring your pie, and recipe, clearly labeled with your name and contact information, and enter the first Brewer Kiwanis Pie Contest, by dropping off your pies between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Kiwanis pie table at the MarketPlace at Brewer Auditorium.

Proceeds from the sale of pie slices will benefit local charities.

The home baker entry fee is $5 per pie, and the entry fee for professional baker or bakery is $25 per pie.

World Children’s Day will be celebrated 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Bangor’s Ronald McDonald House, 654 State St.

The public is invited to attend and enjoy a day of children’s games and activities along with a bounce house, silent auction and refreshments.

The program is being hosted by Queen City Club, a Bangor sorority, and the McDonald’s character Grimace will participate from 10 a.m. to noon.

A benefit spaghetti dinner and auction is planned for cancer patient Robert Jacobson beginning with dinner at 5 p.m. and the auction at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Powerline Prowler Snowmobile Club, Route 15 in East Corinth.

Admission for the benefit, also featuring a 50-50 raffle and a quilt raffle, is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Auction items are welcome, as are other donations to help the family.

Patty Kelley of Brewer High School Project Graduation 2009 invites you to Dancing “Like” the Stars on two nights, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 15, at BHS.

Four seniors, three staff members, a community leader and Back Door Dance Studio dancers will participate.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and $10 for front-row seating.

Guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite couple “as many times as they wish, for $1 per vote,” Kelley explained.

“This event will be fun for the whole family. We’re hoping for a big crowd” to support BHS seniors.
