Anti-Obama remark alleged at high school

GRAY – Two incidents of racism in response to Barack Obama’s election as president are being investigated at a southern Maine high school.

Officials at Gray-New Gloucester High School said the incidents took place Wednesday. A student reportedly stood up in class and made a racist remark about Obama and said he shouldn’t be president.

That led to a conversation later in the hallway between that student and one of the school’s black students.

The black student later walked into the boys restroom and found graffiti on the wall saying the same things about Obama.

The principal is asking the staff to be more aware of what their students are saying and to deal with it immediately.

The student who spoke out about Obama in class was suspended.
