Man seeking job accused of stealing phone

It’s a pretty sure bet that a Veazie man didn’t get the job he was seeking Tuesday after being led out of LaBree’s Bakery in Old Town in handcuffs.

Nicholas Allen Mitchell, 21, was arrested at the Gilman Falls bakery on a charge of violating bail conditions related to a prior unrelated charge. He also was summoned for theft, according to Old Town police Sgt. Scott Casey.

Mitchell was at LaBree’s to apply for a job and while there heard a cell phone ring in a bakery employee’s jacket and apparently took it, Casey said. Casey said the act appeared deliberate, and not an error, because Mitchell made calls on the phone and took steps to cover up the theft.

The theft was exposed after the phone’s owner discovered it was missing and alerted bakery security staff, who reviewed surveillance footage that showed Mitchell taking the phone. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A Bangor man was arrested Wednesday night on a series of charges after allegedly trying to get inside the wrong Court Street residence.

Tino Anthony Marino, 30, was charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, violating bail conditions and drug possession in connection with the incident, according to Detective Sgt. Chip Hodges of the Bangor Police Department.

Police were sent to 94 Court St. after a resident reported that an unknown male was banging on the door demanding to be let in, Hodges said. The man, later identified as Marino, refused requests to leave.

When police officers arrived, they found Marino, shirtless and intoxicated, outside the residence. A search of Marino turned up two Suboxone pills for which Marino had no prescription, Hodges said.

Marino’s residence is listed as 74 Court St. in jail documents. Hodges said it appeared to police that Marino got his home address wrong. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A Bangor man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly using a friend’s Electronic Benefit Transfer card to withdraw cash at an Odlin Road convenience store.

The alleged theft occurred two days earlier, while Brandon A. Kerr and the friend were at the store, Detective Sgt. Chip Hodges of the Bangor Police Department said Thursday.

The misuse of the card went undiscovered until the card’s owner checked the cash balance online. She reported the problem to police, who traced the unauthorized transfer to the store. A review of surveillance video reportedly showed Kerr using the card while his friend was in the restroom.

Kerr was charged with theft and with violating the conditions of his bail from a prior charge. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
