AURORA – The Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Veterans Day hunters supper at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Aurora School, Great Pond Road.

BANGOR-BREWER – Veterans Day parade, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, from Brewer Shopping Plaza, Wilson Street. Led by Gov. John Baldacci, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Purple Heart recipients and other veterans groups, down Wilson Street, across Chamberlain Bridge to Bangor, down Main Street to reviewing stand at Broad Street. Brief ceremony, then parade continues up State Street and takes a right onto Exchange Street to disband, finishing about 11:30 a.m. Before parade, marchers may wait inside Advance Auto Parts, Wilson Street. Veterans may ride in buses provided by First Student Bus. Veterans may leave vehicles at Exchange Street parking lot of TD Banknorth in Bangor and take bus to Brewer before 9:30 a.m., or leave vehicles in the Brewer Hannaford parking lot and ride buses back to Brewer after parade.

BANGOR – Afternoon activities, Nov. 11, Cole Land Transportation Museum, 405 Perry Road, Bangor. Presentation of awards to six winners in museum essay contest “What Freedom Means to Me After Interviewing a Veteran,” 1 p.m.; Bangor Band, patriotic concert, 2 p.m., museum admission free.

BANGOR – Dedication of museum’s new Korean Veterans Memorial, 3 p.m. Nov. 11, Cole Land Transportation Museum, 405 Perry Road. With Maj. Gen. John Libby, adjutant general and commissioner of the Maine Army National Guard; and Ed Davis, president of the Bangor area Korean War Veteran Association. New memorial requested by KWVA to honor five Maine recipients of that war’s Medal of Honor.

BELFAST – The Frank D. Hazeltine American Legion post and Randall-Collins VFW post will hold a Veterans Day parade at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11. Parade starts at Waterfall Arts, continues down High Street, turns right up Main Street and finishes at Redman Hall. Area residents are invited to join the marchers.

BREWER – Pancake breakfast sponsored by Bangor Breakfast Rotary Club, 7 a.m. Nov. 11, Brewer Auditorium. Veterans with walking sticks who take part in parade, and members of Global War on Terrorism Veterans, will receive free breakfast.

CASTINE – Maine Maritime Academy will hold a Veterans Day observance ceremony at noon Tuesday, Nov. 11, in front of Leavitt Hall on campus. Sponsored and organized by the college’s Student Government Association and the Regiment of Midshipmen, the student-centered event will feature student speakers and musical selections by the a cappella group the Maritones. Performances by the MMA band, pipe and drum corps, and drill team will be included. The ceremony will conclude with a 21-gun salute and a moment of silence. The Downeast Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans Association will place a wreath at the base of the merchant marine memorial on campus. The granite memorial honors merchant mariners and members of the naval armed guard from Maine who died in service to their country during World War II.

EAST MACHIAS – Veterans Day dinner, 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, Elm Street School, Route 191. Complete turkey dinner and dessert. Vets and spouses attend free, all others suggested donation $6.

GUILFORD – Piscataquis Community High School and Piscataquis Community Middle School will hold the fourth annual Veterans Day Tribute for area veterans, 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in the high school gym at 9 Campus Drive. Call 876-4301 to reserve a seat.

OLD TOWN – Celebration of Holy Mass in honor of veterans, in gratitude for men and women in active service, and in memory of those who gave their lives to preserve freedom, 4 p.m. Nov. 8, Holy Family Catholic Church, Main Street. Dinner and fellowship afterward in Parish Hall. 827-4000.

ORONO – Navy, Marine and Army ROTC Veterans Day vigil, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 11, on the steps of Fogler Library, University of Maine. It is an event to remember the men and women who have served in the United States military, and to support those now serving.

WINTERPORT – American Legion Post 138 will hold Veterans Day ceremonies at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in front of Memorial Library, Route 1A. The public is invited. Guest speaker will be state Rep. Michael Thibodeau of Winterport. Music will be furnished by members of the Wagner Middle School Band. The American Legion Auxiliary will serve a luncheon after the ceremonies at the Victoria Grant Community Building. The public is invited. The luncheon is free.
