BANGOR – In recognition of the success it saw during its first year of nonstop jet service at Bangor International Airport, low-fare carrier Allegiant Air is expanding its flights to Sanford, Fla., near Orlando.
The expansion will result in the addition of nearly 20 flights, up about 20 percent from the 82 flights Allegiant provided out of Bangor during its first year of service, according to BIA marketing manager Risteen Masters.
The new flights are scheduled for the winter peak, which runs from February through May, she said.
Since its inaugural flight at BIA, Allegiant has carried nearly 32,000 customers between Bangor and Florida, saving them nearly $1 million by bringing everyday low fares to the Bangor community, the Las Vegas-based company noted Friday in a news release.
Representatives from the city and the airline are looking forward to another good year.
“We look forward to a continued successful relationship between Allegiant, Bangor International Airport, the local communities, travel agents and all of our customers.” Maurice J. Gallagher, the airline’s president and CEO, said Friday.
Added BIA Director Rebecca Hupp: “The additional flights will give area residents even more opportunity to travel to the Orlando area on Allegiant’s nonstop jet service.”
