NEWBURGH – A Palmyra man was taken to a Bangor hospital for treatment of injuries suffered Thursday in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 95.
John Hanson, 35, was traveling in the southbound lane about 6 p.m. when his vehicle veered off the roadway and into the median strip, hitting a large tree broadside, according to state police Trooper Darren Vittum.
Vittum said it was a good thing Hanson didn’t have a passenger. Hanson’s 1994 Nissan Sentra struck the tree with such force that the passenger’s side door was pushed into the car almost as far as the driver’s seat.
After the crash, Hanson was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, was treated and released.
Vittum said it was not clear why Hanson’s car left the roadway.
