CHELSEA – The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office says a 43-year-old man was killed when he was apparently run over by two cars after lying down in the middle of a well-traveled road.

According to Sheriff Randall Liberty, deputies got a call about 3 a.m. Saturday of an intoxicated man on Route 17 in the town of Chelsea.

But before deputies could get there, two cars ran over the man, killing him. Liberty said the drivers saw something in the road, but couldn’t stop in time because of rain and heavy fog.

Liberty identified the victim as Darren Duncan of Windsor.

The case remains under investigation.
