BANGOR – Shelby Bradford of Lee scored both goals in the second half Saturday to lead Husson University past the University of Maine-Farmington 2-1 for its second straight North Atlantic Conference women’s soccer title.
With the victory, Husson (15-4) advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fourth time in the last six years.
Bradford, who was named tourney MVP, scored unassisted 41 seconds into the second half off a throw-in and added her second goal five minutes later on a pass from Samantha Homer.
Tatyana Wolterbeek made three saves on seven shots for the top-seeded Husson Eagles.
Amber Murphy scored on a Julie Walters assist for the third-seeded Beavers (10-8). Mckell Barnes made nine saves on 21 shots.
The rest of the all-tourney team includes Julie Walters, Katie Schwarz and Amanda Byrne from UMF; Kylan Smith, Katie Nickerson and Samantha Homer of Husson; Monique Couture and Karin Bellimare of Green Mountain; and Carisa Chadburn and Katie Hoxsie of Castleton State.
UM-Fort Kent 3, SUNY Canton 1
At Portland, second-seeded University of Maine-Fort Kent scored two unanswered goals Sunday to upset No. 1 SUNY Canton to win the Sunrise Conference championship.
UM-Fort Kent outlasted No. 3 UMaine-Presque Isle in penalty kicks in Saturday’s semifinals, while SUNY Canton defeated No. 2 UMaine-Machias 4-0 in their semifinal matchup.
In the championship game, freshman Whitney Sinclair scored all three goals for the 17-3 Bengals. Stephanie Schofield and Brianne McGary recorded assists. Kayla Daigle saved seven of 24 shots.
Niki Perkins scored in the second half off a Justine Monahan assist for 14-4-1 SUNY Canton. Aubrey Parrish turned away six of 16 shots.
