BATH – The Waterville girls soccer team scored five unanswered goals Saturday to snap Gorham’s 70-game unbeaten streak and win the state Class A title 5-1.
Waterville avenges last year’s loss to Gorham in the state title game.
Rachele Burns headed in a Lauren Chouinard free kick 1:43 into the game for 17-1 Gorham. Gorham was 68-0-2 coming into the game.
Paige Gardiner scored at 10:51 into the first to tie it for 18-0 Waterville. Senior Jordan Pellerin added two more goals to make it a 3-1 halftime lead.
Kylee Gardiner and Laura Tozier scored second-half goals for Waterville. Stephanie Whitten provided three assists and Paige Gardiner had two assists.
