DETROIT – A local woman has been charged in a hit-and-run accident last week that left a neighbor injured on the roadside.
Helen Temple, 47, who lives on Troy Road, was charged with aggravated leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, operating after suspension and possessing a suspended license, according to Somerset County Deputy Tim Williams.
She is accused of hitting a pedestrian on Troy Road the evening of Monday, Nov. 3.
The victim, Darlene Godfrey, 38, was walking her dog near her home when she was struck, Williams said.
“I just spoke to her two days ago and she is recovering well,” Williams said Monday.
According to Williams, Temple failed to stop after she struck Godfrey with her late-model Ford Tempo. Godfrey was spotted by a passer-by lying alongside the roadway. Her dog was uninjured.
Godfrey was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. She was treated there and then airlifted by LifeFlight Air Ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Williams said Temple said she was unaware she had hit someone.
The case has been handed over to the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, according to Williams. Temple remains free on bail.
