NFL fans hoping to watch tonight’s New York Jets at New England Patriots game will need a satellite TV service to do so as the game is being shown by the NFL Network which is not available on local TV stations or cable companies.
Fans wishing to see the game, which begins at 8:15 p.m., will be able to do so if they have a satellite service such as AT&T, U-Verse, DirecTV, Dish or Verizon.
Some local sports bars and restaurants such as the Bleechers Sports Grill, the Sports Arena and Uno Chicago Grill in Bangor will be carrying the game. Others may pick up the game if they subscribe to one of the satellite services.
Radio stations WZON of Bangor (620 AM) and WWMJ of Ellsworth (95.7) FM) will be broadcasting the game.
The NFL Network is a satellite and cable network. It is available in 43 million homes, while sports giant ESPN is available in 96 million homes.
The NFL Network is not available on cable because of a long-running standoff between the two services.
Cable companies want to offer the NFL Network on a sports tier so those viewers who want it can pay for it and those viewers who don’t want it don’t have to pay for it. NFL Network officials want it placed with a regular or non-premium tier service.
This season the NFL opted to hold back eight late-season games for its NFL Network.
