STANDISH – Fourth-ranked Saint Joseph’s scored two second-half goals to defeat No. 5 Worcester State College 2-0 in an ECAC field hockey tournament quarterfinal Wednesday.

Saint Joseph’s will travel to Beverly, Mass., on Saturday for a semifinal against top-seeded Endicott College.

Courtney Rague posted the first goal for Saint Joseph’s at 52:27 on a breakaway pass from Sarah Bartell. Kayla Nowell netted an unassisted goal at 60:40 for the second tally. Meaghan Johnson stopped three shots for the 15-5 Monks.

Erin MacDonald made 16 saves on 22 shots for Worcester State, which finishes at 11-10.

Men’s soccer

Coast Guard 1, St. Joseph’s 0

At New London, Conn., Peter Deneen scored the only goal of the game 9:09 into overtime to lead third-seeded U.S. Coast Guard Academy by No. 6 Saint Joseph’s College of Standish in the first round of the ECAC Division III New England tournament.

Tim Olah did not need to make any saves to earn the shutout for 11-8-1 Coast Guard.

Will Pike made 10 saves on 27 shots for the Monks, who finish at 12-7-3.
