A Hampden woman faces multiple charges after a tussle over the weekend with her arresting officers.

Melissa Anna Luna, 28, was driving on State Street in Brewer early Saturday morning when she was pulled over for speeding. When Brewer police Sgt. Richard Miller and Officer Raymond Gotreau approached her, they detected a strong odor of alcohol, Cpl. Paul Gauvin said.

Luna reportedly admitted to drinking, which was a problem because she held a conditional driver’s license and wasn’t supposed to have any alcohol in her system while driving, Gauvin said. After Luna fared poorly on field sobriety tests, the officers told her she was going to Penobscot County Jail for Intoxilyzer testing.

Luna became combative, swearing at the officers and trying to fight with them, Gauvin said. The police eventually got her into handcuffs and took her to the county jail, where she refused blood alcohol level testing or to sign related documents. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A Greenbush man faces several counts of drug possession after police said they found pills and pot in his car during a traffic stop Saturday night on Center Street in Old Town.

Albert J. Thibeault, 22, came to the attention of Old Town police Officer Joshua Loring when he went through a red light, Officer Lori Renzullo said.

During the traffic stop, Loring found OxyContin, Vicodin and Adderall, as well as a usable amount of marijuana, in Thibeault’s pockets and in a lunch box in his vehicle, Renzullo said. Thibeault was not prescribed any of the drugs, Renzullo said.

Before being taken to the county jail, Thibault was charged with three counts of drug possession, including a felony charge for the OxyContin. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

Correction: The Hampden incident also ran in the State editon of 11/20/2008.
