ORONO – University of Maine men’s soccer freshman Daniel Tannous of Thornhill, Ontario, was named to Canada’s men’s U-20 team for its upcoming camp in Switzerland. Tannous is one of 18 players selected by coach Tony Fonseca for the team, which will play two preparatory matches in Switzerland.

Canada will play an exhibition match against U-21 Berner Sports Club Young Boys on Nov. 24 in Bern and then an international friendly match against Switzerland on Nov. 26 in Solothum. The preparatory matches will be played with an eye toward next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009.

Tannous, a back, started all 17 games for the Black Bears this season. He was one of six players to start all 17 games and the lone first-year player. He finished third on the team in minutes played with 1,552.

Tannous was named to the America East All-Rookie Team and also earned spots on the UNH Nike Classic and the Courtyard By Marriott LaGuardia LIU Soccer Classic all-tournament teams.
