FARMINGTON – The UMaine-Farmington men’s basketball team placed five players in double figures as it defeated Newbury College 65-49 at the Hight Chevrolet Tournament on Friday night.

Elms College routed UMaine-Presque Isle 110-44 in the early game.

In the second game, Andrew Dean drained four three-pointers and scored 16 points to pace the Beavers.

Josh Tanguay netted 12 points while Kevin Leary and Eric Lelansky had 11 apiece and Eric Taylor 10 for UMF.

John Rowley led Newbury with 12.

In the first game, Javon Mathis and Dan Gonzalez scored 14 points apiece to pace Elms.

Arsenio Avant added 10 for the winners.

Ray Mitchell’s 13 points led the Owls.

At Allentown, Pa., Mike Gray scored 21 points and added seven rebounds and three assists as Marymount College defeated Colby College in the first round of the Scotty Wood Tournament at Muhlenberg College.

Adam Choice led Colby with 18 points whilte Michael Russell added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Nick Schmiemann scored 14 points for Bates. Scott Place had 11 points and Marshall Hatch added 10 points. Chris Wilson recorded five assists with eight points.

Darrell Bullock had 28 points to lead Wells. Greg Jones scored 10 points.

Colby, Saint Joseph’s win

At Waterville, Rachael Mack scored 13 points as Colby College handily defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle 70-39 in the first game of the Colby College Tournament. Saint Joseph’s College of Standish beat Thomas College of Waterville 81-50 in the second game.

In the first game, Colby forced 39 turnover and made 20 steals.

Alison Cappelloni and Julianne Kowalski scored 12 points apiece for Colby.

Megan Korhonen paced UM-Presque Isle with 16 points. Erica Davis had nine points and 11 rebounds. Mindy Sullivan added 11 boards.

In the second game, Meghan Daigle led Saint Joseph’s with 19 points. Casey Drake had 14 points and Alysn Ludwig added 10 points.

Jess Nassetta scored 10 points for Thomas while Alexis Evans had nine points.

At Gorham, Kaylie DeMillo scored 25 points, including seven three-pointers, to lead the University of Southern Maine past the University of Maine at Farmington 76-57 in the USM Tip-Off Tournament. Norwich University beat Husson University of Bangor 68-54 in the other game.

In the first game, Erica Rate scored 23 points to pace Norwich. Kayleigh Shappy had 10 points and four assists.

Bree Hanscom, Noelle Lincoln and Shelby Bradford each scored 12 points to lead Husson. Bradford added 11 rebounds.

In the second game, Stacey Kent had 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Huskies. Haley Johnson chipped in eight points and four steals.

Erin Porter led UM-Farmington with 17 points. Ashley Busque and Caitlyn Laflin each had 10 points and six rebounds.
