FORT KENT – Andre Anderson, Keith Williams II and Dwayne Smith converted penalty kicks while Giovanni Sinclair made three saves and allowed just one goal to Ollie Moffatt during the PK round as the University of Maine Fort Kent men’s soccer team advanced to the 16-team NAIA Division I tournament in Fresno on Dec. 1-6 by beating Northwood University (Fla.) Saturday.

The game was tied 1-1 after regulation and two 10-minute overtimes.

The 20-0-1 Bengals will take on 19-2 Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. (EST).

Anderson staked UMFK to a 1-0 lead with a 25-yard shot off a Smith pass in the 56th minute.

But Northwood (Fla.) equalized with 4:23 remaining in regulation when a takedown in the penalty area enabled Joonas Siikala to convert from the penalty spot.

Sinclair wasn’t required to make a save on seven Northwood shots in regulation and the two 10-minute overtimes while Northwood goalie Andy Robertson made six saves on 11 shots.

Northwood wound up 15-2-3.

Northwood 7, UM-Fort Kent 0

At West Palm Beach, Fla., Katya Salguero and Emelie Lindstrom scored twice apiece as Northwood eliminated the University of Maine-Fort Kent and earned a berth in the 16-team NAIA Division I Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. beginning Dec. 1.

Johanna Andersson, Julia Hassal and Didi Jurman scored the other goals for the 17-2 Lady Seahawks.

Jurman played in goal in the first half and Mia Moeller took over in the second half. Moeller made one save as the two goalkeepers faced three shots.

Kayla Daigle made 10 saves on 38 shots for UMFK, which concluded a 16-4-1 season.

Bowdoin wins championship

At Collegeville, Pa., senior forward Lindsay McNamara scored the winning goal in double-overtime to lift Bowdoin College to its second-straight NCAA Division III Championship Sunday with a 3-2 win over Tufts University.

Bowdoin downed Ursinus 3-2 in the semifinals on Saturday.

In the championship game, Madeleine McQueeney and Shavonne Lord also scored for 19-2 Bowdoin.

In the semifinals, Julia King, McNamara and Katie Herter scored as Bowdoin held onto a 3-1 lead to win.
