CAMDEN – The Select Board expects to take action tonight on a proposal to establish a Community and Economic Advisory Committee.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. in the Washington Street Conference Room to consider approval of the committee, discuss its short-term focus and designate funding support.

The board will be asked to adopt a directive creating the new committee and to advertise for members.

Town Manager Roberta Smith in her notes for the agenda said it would be helpful for the Select Board to provide initial guidance to the new committee on work the board considers to be a priority. Smith recommended action on issues such as implementation of the Tannery Land-for-Jobs marketing plan, review of the comprehensive plan for action items related to economic and community development, and review of the 2005 Blue Ribbon Economic Development Task Force recommendations.

Smith also recommended funding economic and community development from time to time from “various initiatives,” including designation of future revenues from the Verizon Wireless cellular tower lease for economic development.

In other business, the board will consider action to approve a naming policy for private fundraising for the redevelopment of Ragged Mountain Recreation Area.

The board also will consider withdrawing funds from reserve accounts for the harbor projects for anticipated off-season improvements and for Snow Bowl and Parks Equipment Reserve accounts to replace equipment, including an all-terrain vehicle.

Smith will report an update on the Brownfields grant on the tannery land cleanup from which the town received $200,000 in grant funds from the Environmental Protection Agency.
