An Eastbrook home was spared more serious damage Monday night when a chimney fire started while firefighters were holding a meeting nearby.

Eastbrook firefighters had just arrived at their station at around 7 p.m. Monday when a call came in that a house was on fire on Alder Brook Lane. Fire crews quickly reached the house and, with the help of a thermal imaging camera, determined that the flames were still contained within the chimney.

Fire Chief Rick McNeil said they managed to quickly extinguish the chimney fire before it spread to the rest of the house. As a result, damage was limited to the chimney, which was unlined and will likely have to be replaced, McNeil said.

Fire crews from Waltham and Franklin assisted on the call.
