HOULTON – Nearly two weeks after an early morning break-in at Andy’s IGA, the Houlton Police Department continued to look Tuesday for those responsible for the incident.

Police Chief Butch Asselin said Monday evening that he could not release much information about the investigation, but said police do have some leads.

Evidence also was collected from the North Street crime scene, according to the chief.

“Detective [Carolyn] Crandall continues to plug away at it,” said the chief. “The investigation remains ongoing.”

Police have theorized that sometime between Nov. 9 and the early morning hours of Nov. 10, one or more people used a torch to cut their way into the overhead loading dock door of the store.

After gaining entry to the building, they then used that torch to burn through the safe door.

The thieves grabbed approximately $15,000 in cash, a number of cigarettes and the store’s video surveillance system before fleeing the building.

The burglary was discovered after an employee arrived at the IGA just before 5:30 a.m. and reported the crime.
