Second half keys Beavers triumph

STANDISH – The University of Maine-Farmington outscored Saint Joseph’s College 40-27 in the second half to earn a 69-56 men’s basketball victory Tuesday night.

Andrew Dean led UM-Farmington with 16 points. Eric Taylor scored 14 points and Shane Tracy had 10. Josh Tanguay had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Elbie Murphy led the Monks with 17 points. Alberto Rue had 11 points and Ray Eatmon had nine points and 11 rebounds.

At Beverly, Mass., Colby College used a 10-0 run in the last three minutes to put the game away as the Mules topped Endicott College.

Artie Cutrone led Colby with 18 points while Kyle Donovan chipped in with 10.

Graham Whitelaw scored a game-high 30 points to pace Endicott.

At Waterville, Andrew Duncanson poured in 23 points to spark Thomas College by Wentworth.

Isaiah Brathwaite scored 17 points while Darrell Alexander had 15. Mike Burchill chipped in with 11 points for the Terriers.

Todd Doyle paced Wentworth with 20 points.

Women’s basketball

Southern Maine 67, Bates 57

At Lewiston, Stacey Kent netted a game-high 17 points to lead Southern Maine by Bates.

Kristi Violette posted 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Haley Johnson scored 15 points while Nicole Paradis added 12 for the Huskies.

Val Beckwith scored 14 points to pace Bates. Christine McCall chipped in with 10 points for the Bobcats.

At Farmington, Rivier College outscored the University of Maine at Farmington by 17 points in the second half to defeat the Beavers by nine points.

Blair Carpenter led the charge for Rivier by scoring 17 points. Jessica Mellen had 14 points and 15 rebounds as three other players scored in double digits.

Erin Porter and Ashley Busque led UM-Farmington with 15 points apiece. Amanda Byrne scored 11 points and Caitlyn Laflin added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
