ON THE RUN

Belfast’s Miller 35th at NCAAs

Maine was well-represented at both the NCAA Division I and Division III national cross country championship meets held last weekend.

Belfast native Levi Miller and Ayalew Taye of Portland combined to lead Georgetown University to a 10th-place finish at the Division I meet in Terra Haute, Ind.

Miller, a former Belfast High standout, finished 29th among scoring runners and 35th overall in 30 minutes, 9 seconds over a 10K course while Taye, who starred at Portland High and Cushing Academy (Mass.), placed 122nd overall and 99th among scoring runners in 31:05.

Former Greely of Cumberland Center star Ben True of Dartmouth, who won the Murray Keatinge Invitational at the University of Maine earlier this fall, annexed a 53rd-place finish in 30:30.8.

In the Division III meet, held at Hanover (Ind.) College, three runners from two Maine institutions posted solid finishes.

Bowdoin College of Brunswick junior Thompson Ogilvie placed 17th in the 278-runner field in 24:48.81 over 5 miles.

Southern Maine junior Tyler Jasud finished 43rd in 25:05.35 while Huskies freshman Alex Gomes was 97th in 25:36.90.

Sub 5 banquet approaching

The running season has come to an end for some folks, thus it’s time to reminisce on the season.

There should be plenty of that at the Sub 5 Track Club’s upcoming end-of-season banquet, which will be held Dec. 7 at the Spectacular Event Center on the Griffin Road in Bangor.

Festivities start with appetizers and a cash bar from 5-6 p.m., with dinner from 6-7 and the awards ceremony to follow.

Tickets are $10 before Dec. 7 and $15 at the door.

Holiday races on the slate

If you’re looking to burn off all the turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pie many runners will no doubt fill their bellies with today, there are some road racing options out there.

The Portland Boys and Girls Club will host its 27th annual Thanksgiving Day four-mile race this morning at 9.

This race has been a holiday staple in Portland for many years, and has always been well-attended.

It’ll only cost you $18 to sign up.

On Saturday, the Penobscot Bay YMCA will hold a 5K turkey trot at 8:30 in Rockport and the Gorham Parks and Recreation Department will hold the Burn off the Turkey 5K at 9.
