Orono
Star shows in December at Jordan Planetarium
Celebrate this holiday season at the Jordan Planetarium with two star shows.
“Season of Light” explores the traditions of the solstice at 7 p.m. Fridays, Dec. 5, 12 and 19; 2 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 7, 14, 21 and 28; and Wednesday, Dec. 24. Learn how people held celebrations to help them through long, dark winters and find warmth and comfort in the lights above.
Historic scenery unfolds in the Omnidome and visitors discover why Hanukkah celebrations use candles and what was seen over Bethlehem.
A teddy bear will introduce young explorers to the world of flight in “Wilbear’s Adventure” at 2 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 6, 13 and 20. Especially for children age 4 to 7, the star show celebrates the anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight.
Grandfather Bear shares with Wilbear the many ways people have tried to fly, from gliders to jet planes, and his dream comes true in the Omnidome show when Wilbear launches into flight.
A special celebration day, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 13, is Wilbear’s Flying Party. Families may bring their stuffed friends for crafts, activities and tea before a special showing of “Wilbear’s Adventure.” The fee for Wilbear’s Party is $5 a person – teddies fly free.
Other star shows will be offered during the week of Christmas break. For reservations or information, call the Jordan Planetarium at 581-1341 or visit www.galaxymaine.com.
