Families invited to cut evergreens at refuge

BARING – William Kolodnicki, manager of the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, invites families to cut their evergreen trees on either the Baring or Edmunds Division of the refuge. A free permit is required.

Each family may cut up to two trees for personal use. This will remove trees that are normally cut by machine for road maintenance. Visitors must have permits in their possession while cutting and transporting trees. No trees may be cut in the national wilderness areas on the refuge. Tipping or the gathering of evergreen boughs is strictly prohibited.

Permits, information, directions and maps are available at refuge headquarters, located off Charlotte Road. The office is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For information, call 454-7161 or visit www.fws.gov/northeast/moosehorn.
