MACHIAS – Producers in Washington County considering new irrigation projects or pond construction in 2009 are encouraged to attend the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Bill meeting 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Hillgrove Community Hall on Route 1A in Whitneyville. Producers meeting the above qualifications should also contact the soil and water district at 255-4659.

The Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District has partnered with blueberry growers, cranberry growers, the Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine, the Maine Department of Agriculture, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the National Fish and Wildlife Fund, and U.S. lawmakers to seek sustainable pond and well sites for irrigating crops.
