Leila Murphy has been named manager for the Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors Show in Rockland, succeeding Mary Carey, who stepped down after six years. The show held during the second weekend in August has become one of Rockland’s leading summer events on the waterfront.

Murphy grew up in Waldoboro, then worked in Washington, D.C., where she was a project manager for an interactive Web development company and a program manager at the National Museum of American History and National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution. She worked for several midcoast nonprofits, serving as managing director of Salt Bay Chamberfest and development coordinator for Atlantic Challenge.

The 2008 Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors Show brought some 12,000 people to Rockland from all over the region and beyond during its three-day run. Some 70 boats were on display in the water, plus another 30 on land. Next year’s show will be Aug. 7-9, 2009.

Kathy Roy of Fort Kent has been recognized as Woman of the Year by the Fort Kent Business and Professional Women’s Local. Roy is a director of the partnership representing the Roger Paradis family and president of the partnership of Paradis Shop ‘N Save Supermarkets. The award was given to Roy last month at a special ceremony held at the Fort Kent Golf Club.
