WARREN – Students ranging from kindergarten to high school seniors from public, private and home schools are invited to enter the 2009 Soil Poster Contest sponsored nationwide by the National Association of Conservation Districts and, locally, by the Knox-Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District.
The theme for the contest, “Dig It: The Secrets of Soil,” is inspired by the recently opened Smithsonian exhibit in Washington, D.C., which will be traveling around the nation in 2010.
The Knox-Lincoln SWCD poster contest coordinator, Carney Doucette, is available by appointment for classroom poster contest presentations until Jan. 9, 2009. To receive a soil poster contest entry form with contest rules or to schedule a free interactive presentation, contact district office manager Katherine Ward at 273-2005, ext. 101, or e-mail kathy.ward@me.nacdnet.net.
Top-winning entries at the district level are sent on to compete in the state-level competition with the Maine Association of Conservation Districts. Winners of that competition are sent on to the national competition with the National Association of Conservation Districts.
Educators and participants may view contest rules and entry forms at www.knox-lincoln.org.
