BANGOR – Deon Cheers’ two free throws with 7.2 seconds left provided the winning margin for the University of Maine-Augusta Moose as they edged Eastern Maine Community College 72-71 in men’s basketball action at Johnston Gym on Monday night.
After Cheers’ free throws, the Eagles called timeout before getting off a last-second shot that bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded.
For the Moose, Moses Brathwaite had 26 points and 15 rebounds. Cheers finished with 21 points.
Adam Knowles led the EMCC Golden Eagles with 25 points. Chris Irish had 16 points and James Doe and Ben Maloney each grabbed 10 rebounds.

Jaykyri Simpson paced the University of New England with 17 points, Johnnie Jefferson tossed in 15, Anthony Johnson netted 12 and Marchale Robinson added 10.
Michael Russell poured in a game-high 28 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead Colby College of Waterville. Adam Choice tallied 16 points, while Artie Cutrone and Justin Sherman posted 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Nikki Kaulbach had 18 points, six assists and four steals for the Golden Eagles. Theresa Spieldenner had 13 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots.
