Hampden woman hurt in crash near home

HAMPDEN – A local woman was injured Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash less than 100 yards from her home on Old County Road.

Nicole Libby, 34, was driving home about 9:45 p.m. when she fell asleep at the wheel of her 1999 Ford Explorer. After failing to make a curve, her vehicle left the roadway, traveled onto a lawn, struck a utility pole, sideswiped a sign and hit a tree before coming to a stop, Hampden police Sgt. Scott Webber said Monday.

Libby, who was traveling alone and wearing a seat belt, was taken to a Bangor hospital by Hampden ambulance personnel.

Libby was released from the hospital after receiving treatment for scrapes and bruises to her face, some of which occurred after her air bag deployed, Webber said.

Correction: 12/3/2008

A story about a vehicle crash in Hampden on Page B2 in the final edition of Tuesday’s newspaper should have said that the accident occurred at 11:35 a.m. Sunday and that the driver, Nicole Libby, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
