AUGUSTA – Heating oil prices continue to go down in Maine.
The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said Monday its latest survey found the average cash price for heating oil had fallen to $2.58 a gallon, down 2 cents from last week. The lowest prices were in southern Maine, with the highest in eastern parts of the state.
The average price of heating now has fallen $2.13 a gallon since peaking at $4.71 in early July.
The average price for kerosene was $3.10 a gallon, down 4 cents from last week, while propane for domestic heating fell 5 cents, to $2.85.
Energy Director John Kerry says the price decline is a result of falling demand for oil.
