ROCKLAND – A South Thomaston man was charged with drunken driving after he crashed his pickup truck into a tree and a restaurant off Mechanic Street on Friday night.
Derrick K. Woodward, 20, of Elm Street was charged with operating while under the influence of intoxicants and possession of alcohol by a minor after the 9:11 p.m. wreck. He was taken by Rockland Ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries to his face.
According to the police report, Woodward was driving a 1996 Dodge pickup when he lost control, drove onto the grass at Snow Marine Park, struck a support beam at Sharp’s Point Restaurant, clipped a utility pole and came to rest against a tree. Woodward, who was not wearing a seat belt, struck the truck’s windshield with his face.
According to the police report, damage to Woodward’s truck was estimated at $4,000. The report noted the restaurant is city property and an estimate of the damage to the beam had yet to be determined. Officers James Pease and Scott Solorzano investigated the accident.
