County grand jury indicts 3 on cocaine charges

ELLSWORTH – A Bucksport man, a Bangor man and an Orrington man, each of whom is facing drug trafficking charges, are among 24 people who were indicted Tuesday by the Hancock County grand jury.

Two of the men are accused of teaming up in an attempt to bring a large amount of cocaine to the Bucksport area. Travis L. King, 30, of Bucksport and David W. Meierdirk, 29, of Orrington were arrested a few days before Christmas 2005 when they arrived back in Bucksport after allegedly buying 100 grams of cocaine out-of-state, police said at the time of the arrest.

After police received information about the alleged scheme, agents with Maine Drug Enforcement Agency followed the men from southern Maine to Bucksport, where they stopped the vehicle in which King and Meierdirk were riding. Police seized the cocaine, which they said had an approximate value of $10,000.

King was indicted on charges of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, and Meierdirk was indicted on charges of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs. Each man also was indicted on charges of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and illegal importation of drugs.

Also indicted Tuesday was Robert “BJ” Power, 29, of Bangor. Power is accused of selling heroin to an undercover MDEA agent on Sept. 22.

Police said at the time that agents began investigating Power after receiving information that indicated he was selling heroin from a house on Seawall Road in Southwest Harbor.

The resulting controlled buy led to a search warrant, which in turn led to the seizure of 11 individual bags of heroin and additional heroin that had not been packaged for sale, police said.

A Bucksport woman and another woman from Orland were indicted Tuesday on multiple charges of burglary, theft and misuse of identification.

Elizabeth A. Smith, 23, of Bucksport and Danille M. Wescott, 21, of Orland are accused of breaking into multiple cars in Blue Hill, Bucksport and Orland and taking wallets, music CDs, electronics, credit cards and other items from late June to mid-July, according to Deputy District Attorney Carletta Bassano. She said the duo allegedly used credit cards they stole to purchase other items.

“The total value [of what was stolen] is more than $1,000,” Bassano said.

Chad Saunders, 26, of Orland was indicted Tuesday on charges of criminal threatening, terrorizing, criminal use of explosives and possession of a machine gun. Bassano said complaints of threatening and terrorizing by Saunders led to a search warrant being executed at his property on Upper Falls Road. The search turned up the machine gun and the explosives, which Bassano described as being an unusual type of grenade.

Walker R. Gaspar, 20, of Stonington was indicted Tuesday on multiple charges of burglary and theft. Bassano said Gaspar is accused of burglarizing seasonal homes, a gas station and Deer Isle-Stonington High School, all in the town of Deer Isle. Most of the items taken were tools, she said, but among them was a safe containing more than $1,000 cash.
