Drug case suspect draws new charges

CHARLOTTE – Patrick McGouldrick, 19, who last month was charged with trafficking in scheduled drugs, found himself in hot water again when he recently was charged with violating the conditions of his bail, Calais police said Tuesday.

In November, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested McGouldrick and housemates Kenneth Cushing, 25, and Luke Brown, 19. They were charged with trafficking in scheduled drugs after MDEA agents, Calais police, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police raided the men’s home on Ayers Junction Road.

“MDEA agents had received reports of drug sales taking place at this residence, and obtained a search warrant after an informant purchased marijuana from the home,” MDEA division commander Darrell Crandall said in a press release.

Agents seized more than 21/2 pounds of marijuana valued at more than $4,000, scales, ledgers, 12 firearms, a small number of prescription pills and 54 unidentified tablets, Crandall said.

MDEA agent Michael Crabtree said Tuesday that the agency was still waiting for the chemical analysis on the 54 pills seized by police.

The three men made bail and were directed to appear in Washington County Superior Court in January. If convicted, each faces up to five years in prison.

McGouldrick later violated the conditions of his bail by testing positive for opiates during a urine test at the Calais Police Department, according to Police Chief David Randall.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Nov. 25, McGouldrick appeared at the CPD to report that he had been assaulted. While there, Randall said Tuesday, Officer Dave Claroni noticed that McGouldrick appeared “agitated.”

“He was asked to take a urine test and when he took it he failed,” Randall said. McGouldrick was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail.

McGouldrick appeared in 4th District Court in Calais the next day and entered a guilty plea to violation of his bail conditions. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail.
