BRUNSWICK – The University of Southern Maine of Gorham jumped out to a 31-19 halftime lead and withstood a 53-44 Bowdoin rally to hold on for a 75-72 victory Tuesday night, its fifth straight to open the season.
Stacey Kent led all scorers with 24 points for the Huskies while Nicole Paraids of Skowhegan and Kristi Violette of Readfield netted 14 apiece.
Maria Noucas led Bowdoin with 18 points while Sabrina Cote of Dexter netted 13 and Old Town’s Katie Bergeron 12.

At Brunswick, Will Hanley scored 13 points to lead Bowdoin College past the University of Southern Maine of Gorham.
Randy Defeo added 12 points and five assists for the Polar Bears. Kyle Jackson had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Sean Bergeron paced the Huskies with 15 points and two steals. Andy Tracy scored 12 points and Otis Smith chipped in 10 points.
