BANGOR – Eastern Maine veterans will be honored with a rally Sunday in the Bangor Auditorium as Wreaths Across America begins its journey to 350 state and national veterans’ cemeteries or memorials across the nation.
All veterans, their families and supporting members of the community are invited.
The doors will open at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, and the ceremony will begin with the arrival of the escort for the 100,000-plus wreaths, transported by more than 30 tractor-trailers, each to be placed on a veteran’s grave at participating locations across the country.
Ceremony highlights will include a keynote address by Adjutant General Bill Libby, as well as speeches by Brig. Gen. Fran Auclair on the 60th anniversary of women in the military and Brig. Gen. Bob Lee on the observance of Pearl Harbor Day.
Also planned: a musical solo by Eric Boothroyd, and an appearance by Bangor City Council Chairman Gerry Palmer. A complete list of participating locations is available at www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org.
