Volunteers and staff of Lee-Winn School are seeking a kind trucker who might be near Delano, Minn., anytime after Monday, Dec. 8, and who would be willing to pick up playground equipment for their students.

To ship the equipment, Priscilla Mallory reports, would cost $1,200, which the folks who have been working on this project do not have.

“The weight is 1,911 pounds and [the equipment] is 12 feet on one side and 8 feet on the other,” Mallory wrote.

If anyone can help transport this playground for the kids, call the school at 738-3060.

Lorraine Mitchell of the Calais Lioness Club reminds you the annual Holiday Parade is at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, “through downtown Calais,” and will be followed by “cookies with Santa and Mrs. Claus.”

For more than three decades, the Calais Lions Club, working with local radio stations, has held a talent show to raise money for its holiday efforts.

“The show is 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, and anyone can participate and sing on the radio to help with contributions for the Lions’ Santa’s Helper program,” Mitchell said.

The Blue Marble Gallery announces a wine and snacks reception 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Gallery, 167 Main St. in Waterville.

The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers will receive 10 percent of the evening’s sales at the exhibit featuring works by Kathleen Perelka, Christa Pauley, Stephen Mark Page, Ann Rhinehardt and Pat Binette.

Chairwoman Bonnie Hunter invites you to the Pembroke Historical Society Craft Fair, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Pembroke Elementary School.

The fair is part of the group’s effort to “raise funds to maintain the society’s activities and museum,” Hunter wrote.

More than 40 crafters from Eastport, Princeton, Charlotte, Lubec, Dennysville, and beyond will offer everything from pottery to quilts. Food will be on sale, and there is no admission charge.

Bev Winship and Barbara Higgins of FUTURE MSAD 3 invite you to “take home a piece of Mount View history” with Fernwood collectibles, which are among the items to be sold at the Mount View Christmas Craft Fair, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Thorndike School.

The old and new Fernwood school collectibles, by Maine artist Sandy Manship, will be available, along with other school mementos ranging from notecards to magnets.

Sales of Mount View collectibles benefit the FUTURE MSAD 3 campaign for the pre-kindergarten through grade 12 school that is expected to open in 2009.

The public is invited to a chicken supper, 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Orono United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 36 Oak St.

Admission is $7 for adults, $4 for children under 12, reports Alma Otto.

Proceeds will help purchase fuel for the church.

Wade Dow reports he and his Friends, The Higgins Family, Bob Elston, Dick Philbrook & Frye Mountain Band will participate in the Coastal Christmas for Kids annual benefit at 5 p.m. Saturday Dec. 6, at Sedgwick Elementary School.

A baked-bean and casserole supper, 50-50 raffle, Christmas basket raffle, Chinese auction, door prizes and “down-home” entertainment are features of the evening.

Tickets at the door are $9 for the supper, $9 for the show or $16 for both, half-price for children 12 and under.

“Come out and celebrate the holiday season while helping out the Rumill Family of Franklin and Hancock County Habitat for Humanity,” as they work together on this Habitat for Humanity project, wrote Kathy Zerrien.

HCHH will hold a benefit spaghetti supper and auction at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Mountain View Grammar School in Sullivan.

Admission for the supper is by donation.

The event features a Christmas stocking raffle worth more than $200, a chance to purchase photos with Santa Claus and a 50-50 raffle.

Supporters of the St. Croix No. 1 Fire House invite you to their fifth annual Community Christmas and Holiday Potluck Party, 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the firehouse on Church Street in Calais.

Admission is a dish to share, said Dick Barnard.

For this “old-fashioned Christmas,” he added, “we will have door prizes, live entertainment and the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company.”
