ROCKLAND – A 59-year-old local man was hit by a car just before 10 p.m. Tuesday while he was walking in the crosswalk on Pleasant Street.

A 2009 Dodge four-door sedan driven by Melinda S. Crockett, 20, of Newcastle hit Joseph O. Coolbroth.

According to the Rockland Police Department’s report, Crockett said she was driving east on Pleasant Street and stopped at the corner of South Main Street. As she began to turn right on South Main, Coolbroth began walking north across Pleasant Street.

She hit the pedestrian, who fell to the ground and immediately got up.

The Rockland Rescue squad arrived and took Coolbroth to Penobscot Bay Medical Center. He was treated and then released.

Crockett told police she was not paying attention and did not see Coolbroth, who reported it looked as if she was looking the other way and didn’t see him crossing, according to the police report.

Rockland police Officer Anthony F. Camporiale investigated the scene.
