Rob Reeves, executive director of the Bangor Y, will step down on Dec. 19 after nine years in that position in order to take a similar job in his home state of Connecticut. Reeves shared these thoughts with The Weekly:
“I want to thank everyone for welcoming Joanne, myself, and our daughters Courtney and Victoria when we moved to Hampden in 1999 to assume my new role as the CEO of the Bangor Y. As printed in the Nov. 19 edition of the Bangor Daily News, on Jan. 4th I will begin my new position as CEO of the Westport Weston Family Y in Westport, Conn.
“There are too many people to thank by name, but they include the 10 YMCA and five YWCA board presidents and the many Y volunteers who give so much of themselves. Most of all, I want to thank the wonderful staff with whom I have had the pleasure of working the last nine-plus years who bring the mission of the Y alive every day. From the teachers and staff in SAD 22 to the pastors and parishioners at All Souls Congregational Church, there isn’t another community where we would want our children to have been raised and educated.
“My new responsibilities in Connecticut include raising money to build a new Y for that community, which is very exciting. Other factors we considered were that I was born and raised in Connecticut; we will be closer to other family in Ohio and Massachusetts; and we will be closer to our friends in Pennsylvania, where we lived for 13 years before moving to Bangor.
“Bangor is blessed to have so many who give of their time so generously. We pray for continued blessings for the Y staff and volunteers.”
Sincerely,
Rob Reeves, CEO
Bangor Y
