PORTLAND – A former Navy corpsman has pleaded guilty to attempted murder for chasing his wife with a 14-inch butcher knife last December.
After entering his plea Tuesday in Cumberland County Superior Court, Victor Perez, 25, was sentenced to five years in prison, with two of those years suspended.
Brunswick police were called to Brunswick Naval Air Station housing Dec. 27 after Perez’s wife said he was chasing her with a butcher knife and she was hiding in the car. She also said she feared for her two small children.
When police arrived they told Perez to drop the knife. When he began to follow his wife, an officer fired a Taser to subdue him.
The Navy said Perez was administratively separated from the Navy in October.
